CAPSTONE PROJECT UNIMELB

Twelve hours of lectures in semester 1 for both semester 1 only and year long enrolled students. Evaluate a body of knowledge in an area of contemporary research and practice in education Engage in reflective, critical discussion of existing research Apply research designs to investigate educational issues Assess ethical risks and benefits of the selected research design in education research Analyse findings based on systematic analysis of data and or literature Identify and assess the implications of their project findings for improving education practice Integrate the findings to extend professional learning through research. Devise a methodology of investigation to improve knowledge or understanding of a chosen topic; 3. Technical report writing, engineering design, planning and conducting experiments and test, data acquisition and analysis, public speaking, project presentation skills. The project component of this subject is supplemented by a lecture course dealing with project management tools and practices, organisational structures, engineering standards and the social and environmental responsibility of professional engineers.

Ability to communicate effectively, not only with engineers but also with the community at large; In-depth technical competence in at least one engineering discipline; Ability to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution; Ability to utilise a systems approach to design and operational performance; Ability to function effectively as an individual and in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams, with the capacity to be a leader or manager as well as an effective team member; Understanding of the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of the professional engineer, and the need for sustainable development; Capacity for independent critical thought, rational inquiry and self-directed learning; Intellectual curiosity and creativity, including understanding of the philosophical and methodological bases of research activity; Openness to new ideas and unconventional critiques of received wisdom.
